Adaptation of eponymous novel (1942) by Ilona Leimane. The action takes place near the end of the nineteenth century but the story is about as old as the world itself. There are two neighboring households - Vilkači (Werewolves) and Dievlodziņi (God's little windows) - and animosity between them. Well, more like envy and hatred coming from Dievlodziņi because Vilkači have always had better success with crops, better success with cattle, better success...and the explanation is simple - them Vikači women, they are withes! One fine day young and pretty Alīna inherits Vilkači and, as luck would have it, the son of old Dievlodziņš has reached the right age to be married...
