James and Scott's one shared goal, to become professional stand-up comedians, proves more difficult than they first thought. James appears to have no troubles in the world but is secretly insecure about his comedy act and his social encounters with girls usually end in awkward silences. After being on the circuit for a year he thinks that if it's going to happen, it will, but he refuses to become obsessed with success. Scott however, being a newcomer does not quite understand what it takes to get to the top and longs for quick success. After he quits his job and splits up with his long-term girlfriend, comedy is the only thing he has left, that and James.
