It is the story of the unfortunate youth of Elizabeth Barrett, one of the most prominent poets of the Victorian era, both plagued by bad health and oppressed by a puritan and authoritarian father. After falling in love with Robert Browning, a famous poet as well, she finally finds the courage to leave home and live to the full despite her illness.
