Das Wolgamädchen, directed by Robert Wohlmuth, was made in 1930 during the early days of the talkies, but shot as a silent movie. Sound effects and singing were added later. The scenery was built at the Schönbrunn studios in Vienna. It would give the audience an illusion of far-off Russia, where the love story between an officer and a simple girl is set.
