The TV movie follows the life of competitive one-armed gymnast Carol Johnston during the 1979 season at Cal State at Fullerton, where she aimed to win balance beam and floor exercises at the NCAA gymnastics championships. It depicts how her being born with only one arm was never a handicap, but an injured knee, which prevented her from competing at the NCAA championships showed her what it really meant to be handicapped.
