Charming young Marla works in a travel office, where she is assigned to go visit beautiful Alpine Lake Königssee to negotiate a travel package. There she meets suave hotel owner Max, one of her boss's business partners, who runs the best hotel in town. The two take a liking to each other, especially because Max seems to know her every desire in advance. On the other hand, he seems to have some painful secret in his past, and his parents make no secret of their disapproval of Marla. One night she finds him in the attic of the hotel, pining for a woman named Nora he once loved, twenty years ago. Although she has fallen in love with Max, Marla breaks it off and returns to the city. But there, strange things begin to happen: She receives an anonymous letter with a picture of Nora, who looks like her twin sister. A terrible suspision begins to dawn on Marla: Could "Nora" be her mother, who vanished twenty years ago? Was it really an accident? Marla returns to Könissee to try and solve the puzzle, against the open enmity of the locals and Max' evasions. Starring Yvonne Catterfeld, perhaps the top young star in Germany at the moment, famed as a pop singer with multiple Gold albums. The story for this dramatic mystery by Wolf Jakoby was inspired by motifs in the life and work of British writer Daphne de Maurier, whose novels were the source for Hitchcock's "Rebecca" and "The Birds," among others.
