Kristine Lipton is a young doctor who arrives at a new hospital and discovers widespread corruption and cover-ups. The doctors are conducting grisly experiments on old, indigent patients. The plot is at once terrifying and ludicrous; it would seem impossible that such a hospital could remain open for long, even if the chief of staff is played by Trapper John, M.D., himself, Pernell Roberts. Gilbert walks through the movie with a stiff haughtiness, but there are moments when Donor is unsettling. Looking at this medical butcher shop, you'll be petrified to enter a hospital ever again. Donor is a variation on a familiar theme, played to the hilt by a topnotch cast. Doctor Kristine Lipton is shocked when her close friend is strangled by an elderly patient. Before she has a chance to investigate, the killer himself dies in a mysterious accident. Probing further, Melissa deduces that the hospital administators are hiding something from her. She's right: Pernell Roberts and Jack Scalia costar in Donor, which made its broadcast premiere December 9, 1990.
