Documentary about INOUE YUICHI 井上 有一 (1916-1985), a master of Japanese calligraphy as contemporary art (Boku-sho: avant-garde calligraphy). This film, titled "Scribo ergo sum. Yu-ichi writing works 1955-1985", was awarded the "Gran Prix" of the 16th Asolo International Festival of Film on Art. Yu-ichi studied oil painting at the Shunyo-Kai Art Group and calligraphy under Sokyu Ueda. Organized with his friends a group of vanguard calligraphers, 'Bokujin-Kai'. His works were included in the Travelling Exhibition of Japanese Calligraphy in Europe in 1955. Sent his works to the International Exhibitions held in Paris and Milan, to the 4th Biennial Exhibition of Sao Paulo in 1957 and to Documenta 2 in 1959 at Kassel. The lenght of the film is only 30:35 m. It was made in cooperation with Koriyama City Museunm of art, Chiyoda Video and Tokyo TV Centre. This copy is possibly a version originally made for Europe, as the audio is totally in English.
