As wine dinner guest of Wiesbaden gastronome Bernhard Lohenfels and his wife, prosecutor Bernd Reuther witnesses his host's brutal murder by a clumsy robber, who misses valuable loot while insisting on the near-empty safe and needn't resort to such risky violence. He coaches his team to check up both on the easily identified robber and possible other motives for a set-up by the widow or other guests, one of whom is meanwhile kidnapped.
