B12 is named after an old ‘Rasthaus’, a restaurant that in turn is named after the B12 trunk road, next to which it is situated, that links Munich with Passau. In his documentary, film director Christian Lerch follows a group of people through their everyday routine. They are squatting the old restaurant and living on the fringes of society. White Bavarian sausages are served and the important things in life, like the defining features of being a dickhead, are discussed. The squatters count among their ranks a Bavarian institution: the grumpy, 89-year-old patriarch Lenz who, despite being lovingly taken care of by his family and having old friends regularly drop by, is tired of life. This is something of which those around him are certainly aware, but they don’t let it to get to them.
