Heather McKinnon grew up in Plattsville, Ontario. Early on at the age of seven, McKinnon's parents felt it was a good idea to enroll her in Theatre Camp located at the Galt Little Theatre in Cambridge, Ontario. McKinnon spent every summer there until she was about twelve years old.
