Else Holmelund Minarik，Ms. Minarik's first husband, Walter Minarik, died in the 1960s; her second, Homer Bigart, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent for The New York Herald Tribune who was later a reporter for The New York Times, died in 1991. Her only child, a daughter, Brooke, from her first marriage, died before her.
